‘RYVU SNAPSHOTS’: VOLUNTEERING, SKILLS AND EMPLOYABILITY AMONG THE ‘POOR’

This is the third video of the series ‘RYVU Snapshots’ which aims to disseminate findings and reflections emerging from the Refugee Youth Volunteering Uganda research. Each snapshot will feature project team members and also partners sharing insights related to RYVU’s work in around 2 minutes to open up conversations in volunteering and development spaces, particularly among youth.

In our research, some have claimed that ‘the poor cannot volunteer’. In this snapshot, Dr Cuthbert Tukundane, senior lecturer at Uganda Martyrs University and member of the RYVU team, shares his thoughts on what this claim means for promoting volunteering as supporting youth skills and employability.

The RYVU project is focused on exploring the kinds of voluntary labour practiced by young refugees in Uganda and investigating how these impact on their skills, employability and the inequalities they experience. This series draws upon these debates in an accessible visual format. The videos are downloadable and can be widely shared.
